Lightbox delivers doc on bizarre clown sightings to Hulu, Disney+ for Halloween

Clown Panic looks at reported sightings of clowns hiding in odd places in 2016

London- and LA-based factual indie Lightbox is producing a documentary for Hulu about 2016’s ‘great clown scare.’

Premiering in time for Halloween on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally, Clown Panic examines a series of alleged sightings of clowns hiding in incongruous places, such as in woods and near schools, which were reported across the US and in other countries including the UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand in 2016.

Described as “darkly funny, unsettling and unexpectedly emotional,” the film uncovers how a bizarre urban legend spiralled into a global moral panic.

Clown Panic is directed by Lightbox’s Ed Perkins and produced by the prodco’s co-founders Jonathan and Simon Chinn. Creative director Suzanne Lavery exec produces.
