In Contempt stars Whittaker as a barrister whose top-drawer advocacy skills have earned her a ‘hot shot’ reputation defending people’s reputations and engaging in multi-million-pound litigation to prevent their good names from being destroyed on social media.

The series is written by Steve Thompson (Sherlock, Vienna Blood, Lynley) and produced by ITV Studios-owned Hartswood Films, led by CEO and exec producer Sue Vertue (Douglas Is Cancelled, Sherlock, Coupling), creative director Steven Moffat (Sherlock, Doctor Who, Dracula) and MD Dan Cheesbrough.

The series will be executive produced by Vertue on behalf of Hartswood Films alongside Moffat. The director is Ed Bazalgette (The Last Kingdom, Lynley) and producer Lawrence Till (Douglas is Cancelled, The Devil’s Hour).

Polly Hill, ITV’s director of drama, will oversee production on behalf of the broadcaster and the series will air on ITV and STV and be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.

In Contempt begins filming in London this autumn. The series is being produced in association with ITV Studios, which will handle international distribution.
