European production and distribution giant Fremantle has acquired distribution rights to UK unscripted format Fame in the Family, produced by UK prodco Salamanda Media.

The project, which premiered on Channel 4 on Monday, is a DNA guessing-game format in which four dinner guests must work out which of them is related to their celebrity host.

“We are pleased to work with Salamanda Media to bring this exciting new format into the Fremantle catalogue,” said Rob Clark, director, global entertainment at Fremantle.

“Fame in the Family is a guessing game that uses the concept of family DNA and unknown relatives to hook viewers in – the added element of DNA testing is ingenious.”

Fremantle is handling international distribution for the series. Other formats in its catalogue include Too Hot to Handle, Game of Talents, Farmer Wants A Wife, Got Talent and Family Feud.

Channel 4 owns a minority stake in Manchester-based Salamanda through its Indie Growth Fund, which aims to help small and mid-sized companies expand. The prodco is run by Sally Evans and Amanda De Freitas.
