Sony Pictures-backed UK prodco Eleventh Hour Films (EHF) has appointed Christopher Kam as its head of development.

Now charged with leading EHF’s new development drive, Kam was previously the director of scripted development at NBCUniversal International Studios, where he worked on projects including Hanna for Amazon Prime, plus The Capture and The Long Song, both for the BBC.

In other EHF developments, the studio will produce new true crime drama series The Man in the Back Seat (working title), to be written by novelist David Peace (Red Riding) and actor Ted Reilly.

It tells the story of James Hanratty, who was executed in 1962 for the murder of Michael Gregsten and the rape and attempted murder of Valerie Stone. It was the longest trial in British legal history at the time.

Finally, EHF has optioned author Celia Walden’s thriller novel, Payday, for development into a series.

“The Man in the Back Seat and Payday couldn’t be more different as projects but exemplify exactly what we do at Eleventh Hour Films, which is to tell distinctive stories which audiences love to watch,” said EHF chief executive Jill Green, creative director Paula Cuddy and executive producer Eve Gutierrez in a statement.
