Mackenzie (Mack) Leigh, an American, leads a typical life in small-town New Zealand with her husband Rob and their two sons, Toby and Noam. What was meant to be a short stay became permanent after discovering the country’s free healthcare system, a godsend for their disabled son, Toby.
Mack’s world takes an unexpected turn when she learns that Rob has been seeing a sex worker. Surprisingly, instead of anger, Mack feels inspired. In New Zealand, sex work is legal, and with their marriage lacking intimacy, Mack sees this revelation as a relief—one less thing to worry about. Always a renegade and with a flair for entrepreneurship, Mack starts researching the industry and discovers that Shadows, the town’s only brothel, is run by Dion, a sleazy owner. Sensing a business opportunity and the potential to fill a gap in the market, Mack decides to open a “feminist, ethical brothel,” run by women, for women.
