The Geography of War: World War II, takes a bold new approach to the greatest conflict of modern history, examining the key campaigns of the Second World War through the prism of geography. For millennia, the same rivers, mountain ranges, deserts and oceans have presented armies with geographical challenges. The Second World War was no different. From the forests of France to the plains of Russia, the deserts of North Africa and across the islands and seas of the Pacific, the commanders of World War II contended with landscapes that had aided and broken armies long before them. Using expert interviews, colourised archival footage and dynamic animated maps that strip away political borders to reveal the topography beneath, the series reveals the fascinating and often decisive links between Geography and War.
