Veteran Canadian producer Andrew Munger is relaunching his independent production banner Ultramagnetic Productions with a slate of new titles.

The company, which was founded in 1997 and shuttered initially in 2005, has revealed a slate of in-development projects including scripted drama Michael’s Wars and feature-length documentary Say It Loud.

The former show is based on the life of British-Canadian foreign correspondent Michael Maclear, who became the first Western TV correspondent to be granted access to North Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The project is based on a 2013 memoir called Guerilla Nation, which was optioned by Munger.

Say It Loud examines how groundbreaking musicians such as Jay Douglas, Nana McLean, Leroy Sibbles and Jackie Mittoo paved the way for modern-day Canadian stars like Drake, Daniel Caesar, Kaytranada and Jessie Reyez.

The project is being directed by Graeme Mathieson, with Clement Virgo (Billions, The Wire) serving as executive producer and musicologists Nicholas Jennings and Klive Walker as consultants.

With the relaunch of Ultramagnetic, Munger is stepping down from his role as director of unscripted development at Toronto-based production company White Pine Pictures.

During his eight-year tenure with the company, he produced documentaries including music doc Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson & the Band, which opened the Toronto International Film Festival in 2019.

He remains an executive producer on several White Pine documentaries, including Buffy Sainte Marie: Carry It On (Bell Media/PBS) and The Con: Churchill & Roosevelt Secret American War (Super Channel/WNET/Arte/Beyond Rights).
